About the role

The Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) office in Tegucigalpa is seeking an Epidemiologist to join its medical‑humanitarian team. The role involves conducting epidemiological investigations, establishing surveillance systems and providing data‑driven advice to support outbreak and emergency response programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate disease outbreaks, documenting time, location and affected persons, with emphasis on mapping when required.
• Maintain and operate surveillance systems to monitor epidemiological trends of outbreak‑prone diseases.
• Guide medical staff in active case finding, ensure consistent case definitions and high‑quality data recording.
• Lead training sessions for new personnel on the epidemiological context of the intervention area.
• Manage data bases, guaranteeing accuracy and completeness of epidemiological data.
• Prepare regular written reports for the medical coordinator, central office and, when appropriate, external partners such as ministries of health or NGOs.
• Design and adapt protocols, tools and surveys for rapid medical assessments and follow‑up studies, testing them in collaboration with the central epidemiology team.

Required profile

• University degree in epidemiology, public health or a related medical field.
• Experience working in humanitarian or low‑resource settings is highly valued.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail in data management and reporting.
