Director, Credit Risk Management – Financial Institutions & Infrastructure/Energy

About the role

IDB Invest is seeking a senior professional to lead credit risk activities for Financial Institutions and the Infrastructure & Energy portfolio. The Director will guide a team of credit risk officers, ensure rigorous risk assessment, and support the origination, execution, and management of high‑impact projects across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Credit Risk Management (MCR) Division for FI and Infrastructure/Energy sectors.
• Coordinate and mentor a team of credit risk officers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Serve as the voting risk member in assigned Delivery Units.
• Develop, maintain, and enforce credit risk policies, parameters, and procedures.
• Review credit and investment proposals, assess risk, and support internal credit approval processes.
• Participate in portfolio supervision to validate risk ratings and monitor ongoing exposures.
• Strengthen the institution’s capacity to manage credit risk in lending, treasury, and derivative activities.
• Collaborate with investment officers and clients to add value beyond compliance and drive sustainable development impact.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in credit risk management, preferably within financial institutions or infrastructure/energy financing.
• Proven leadership ability to manage and develop high‑performing risk teams.
• Strong understanding of Latin American and Caribbean development finance environments.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Ability to report to senior management and influence risk decisions at the division level.
