Macroeconomist Consultant – Research Department (RES)

About the role

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is seeking a consultant to support its Research Department (RES) in macroeconomic analysis for Latin America and the Caribbean. Working under senior economists, you will help translate complex economic data into clear policy insights for senior management and external audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare talking points, briefing notes, and Q&A materials on macroeconomic developments for senior management.
• Monitor and analyze macroeconomic, financial, fiscal, external, and trade indicators across the region, producing short analytical notes.
• Convert findings from the Annual Macroeconomic Report and other publications into concise policy products and dissemination materials.
• Contribute to the preparation of the Annual Macroeconomic Report and draft analytical sections for policy reports, speeches, and presentations.
• Build, update, and document macroeconomic databases and analytical tools, generating charts, tables, and factsheets.
• Conduct research on macroeconomic and financial policy topics relevant to the region and provide rapid analytical inputs as needed.

Required profile

• Strong ability to synthesize complex macroeconomic analysis into clear, concise messages for senior managers, policymakers, and non‑technical audiences.
• Excellent written communication skills in English and Spanish, with proven experience drafting talking points, briefing notes, and policy briefs.
• Experience compiling, cleaning, and managing macroeconomic data sets.
